Police seize 150kg of fish from illegal fishing in Chernobyl

In the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, the police seized 150 kg of fish from the car of state ecologists.

While patrolling, the police noticed a car of the state institution “Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve” on the border of the radioactive contamination zone. The employees of this institution protect wild animals and their places of residence within the territory of the reserve and improve their habitats.

When inspecting the car, the police found in the luggage compartment almost 150 kg of freshly caught fish with wounds typical for poaching. These persons did not have a permit to move fish outside the exclusion zone. Militiamen seized the fish and sent it for examination.

Investigators of the Chernobyl Zone police department opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 267-1 “Violation of the requirements of the radiation safety regime” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
