43 years ago, Chernobyl NPP started working

August 1, 1977 – ChNPP Power Unit 1 reactor physical start-up

43 years ago nuclear fuel was started to be loaded into the reactor core of ChNPP Power Unit 1 and it commenced the epoch of nuclear power generation industry in Ukraine. In the evening of August 14, the fuelling of the first Chornobyl NPP power unit was completed. And on August 18, the power ascension started and transition to power generation mode was performed.

Note that ChNPP is the first nuclear power plant within the territory of Ukraine and the first which commenced the decommissioning process.
