On October 30, during the work in the Exclusion Zone and the Zone of Unconditional Resettlement, police officers of the police department № 1 (Chernobyl) of Vyshhorod, together with employees of the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve, discovered illegal sand extraction in the CEZ.
An investigative task force of the police department worked at the scene.
It was established that the extraction of sand by unknown persons on the lands of the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve was carried out without proper grounds and documents.
The coordinates of the specified land plot on which sand was extracted are superimposed on the land of the cadastral public map of the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.
As material evidence, police seized samples of sand mixture and a Hyundai 170W excavator, which was used to extract sand from the scene.
According to this fact, the police opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 240 (Violation of the rules of protection or use of subsoil, illegal extraction of minerals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to six years.
